Mizzou Takes Exhibition Over Lindenwood, 191.950 - 179.550

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Missouri Tigers gymnastics program opened up their 2013-14 season Sunday afternoon at the Hearnes Center, with an exhibition contest against the Lindenwood Lions. Mizzou used strong outings in the vault, beam and floor exercises to come away with a 191.950 - 179.550 victory over the Lady Lions.
In the first rotation, sophomore Rachel Henderson led off the Tigers with a score of 9.650. Freshman Alyson Heimsath made her Tigers debut next, as she delivered a solid 9.750. Junior Laura Kappler would finish with a 9.200, followed by freshman Angie Kern's score of 9.750. Junior Rachel Updike would post an event best 9.900 for Mizzou, and sophomore Blair Elmore finished the Tigers' vault with a 9.500.
Mizzou then headed over to the bars in their second rotation, as junior Briana Conkle tallied a score of 8.900 to start things off. Elmore would continue her solid afternoon at the Hearnes Center with a 9.700, and was followed by a score of 8.750 from Kappler. Junior Rebecca Johnson posted an impressive 9.800, which was good enough for Mizzou's best score in the rotation. Updike would conclude the Tigers turn at the bars with a score of 9.600.
With the third rotation, the Tigers moved their way towards the beam. Mizzou would collectively post their highest event total on the afternoon with a combined score of 48.750. Heimsath (9.750), Elmore (9.800), junior Mackenzie McGill (9.800) and Conkle (9.750) all produced impressive scores for the home crowd.
The night's final event brought the floor routine for Mizzou, and was highlighted by scores of 9.700 from Kern and junior Katelyn Trevino. As a team, the Tigers tallied a total floor score of 47.900.
Mizzou begins their regular season on Jan. 10 with a road trip to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide. The meet will be televised on Fox Sports Net with a start time of 7:30 p.m. CT.
