
Mizzou Finishes First on Senior Night

COLUMBIA, MO.--The Tigers improved to 5-8 on the season tonight at Senior Night. The Missouri Gymnastics team honored senior Alex Gold with wins over SEMO, Centenary and Temple, scoring a 194.775 on the night. Gold will leave on a high note, as she improved to a career-high 9.825 on beam, topping the 9.800 she earned against Nebraska. Junior Mary Burke earned her sixth career all-around title, taking the top spot with sophomore Lauren Swankoski. The two posted all-around totals of 39.225, which is a career-high for Swankoski.
Missouri started the meet on vault where the team put together a total score of 48.775 on the event, matching the score they put up against Southern Utah. Gold posted a season-high 9.850 and freshman Cathryn Aliceaacosta recorded a career-high 9.650. Aliceaacosta has consistently improved her vault scores over the last three meets this season, and Gold's score earned her the vault title. Tori Howard contributed to the team total with a 9.600 and Sandra Ostad put up a 9.700. Swankoski recorded a 9.775 followed by a 9.800 from Burke, who took second on the event.
Junior Allie Heizelman led the team on bars, recording a 9.850 to match her second-highest score of the season and earn the bars title. Swankoski and Burke both posted 9.775 scores, putting them in a tie for third on bars. Freshman Katelyn Trevino recorded a 9.200 followed by a 9.175 from Ostad and a 9.150 from Taylor Medrea. The Tigers finished the second rotation with a total score of 96.550, which pushed them back to second place behind SEMO. The Redhawks recorded a 48.550 on floor and a 48.575 on vault to take the lead with a 97.125.
Mizzou picked up momentum in the third rotation scoring a 49.150 on beam. The score brought the team to a total of 145.700, just behind SEMO's 145.725. Gold and Swankoski both put up 9.825 scores, and Heizelman matched her career-high 9.875. Burke hit her career-high 9.000 for the second time this season as well, and the two took the first and second places on the event. Both Howard and Aliceaacosta recorded 9.725 scores on the event.
The Tigers sealed the deal on floor, recording a 49.075 to put them in the lead with a 194.775. Swankoski took the floor title, scoring a 9.850 on her floor routine, while Gold, Howard and Heizelman earned scores of 9.825. The score matches a season-high for Gold, and put the three in a tie for third place. Burke put up a 9.750 on floor and Aliceaacosta recorded a 9.625. The Tigers finished in first, ahead of SEMO who ended with a score of 194.675. Centenary put up a 190.750 and Temple scored 190.125.
Mizzou Gymnastics has one more road meet before hosting the Big 12 Championships on March 19. Next weekend the Tigers take to Ohio State where they will see the Buckeyes at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 12.
