Louisville, Ky. - The Missouri softball team (25-17) closed out the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 4-2 victory over Louisville (16-15) in game two of its doubleheader at Ulmer Stadium.
Scoring first for the 17th time of the season, sophomore shortstop Andee Allen (Windsor, Mo.) advanced home from second base on redshirt junior Micaela Minner's (Sanger, Texas) double to left center. Earlier in the inning, Allen reached first on a fielder's choice and took second when junior Amanda Renth (Mascoutah, Ill.) was awarded base on balls. Minner leads the team with 13 doubles on the season and has notched at least one hit in each of Missouri's past four games.
Freshman pitcher Alaina Jacobson (Crocker, Mo.) made her ninth start in the circle and allowed a leadoff double by Cardinal right fielder Brooke McCrain in the bottom of the second inning. Pinch runner Skye Miller scored the game-tying run on double to left field by Kristi Cunningham.
Cardinal catcher Melissa Roth scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the third inning. Leading off with a single, Roth scored on designated player Kristen Waldwell's single off of freshman pitcher Jana Hainey (Raymore, Mo.) to right center. Hainey entered the game in relief after Jacobson threw two and one third innings allowing two runs on five hits. Hainey ended the day having thrown two and two-thirds inning of work allowing only four of the Cardinals 12 hits on the day.
The Tigers pulled ahead, 3-2, on freshman outfielder Julie Silver's (Chesterfield, Mo.) two run homer over the right field wall. The knock was Silver's second of the campaign and drove in senior Amanda Jo White (Tallmadge, Ohio) from second base. White led off the inning with a single to right center and stole second before scoring on Silver's home run. Missouri has scored at least one home run in three of its past five games.
Sophomore Megan Dennis (Liberty, Mo.) was the third Tiger pitcher to enter the game, doing so in the top of the sixth inning.
Minner scored Missouri's final run in the top of the seventh inning. Leading off with a single to right field, Minner scored on designated player Jen Bruck's (St. Peters, Mo.) one out single giving the Tiger's a two run lead entering the final half inning of play.
Missouri will resume conference play with a two-game home stand against No. 9 Texas Saturday, March 31, at 2 p.m. (CT). Fans are encouraged to arrive early as parking near University Field will be limited due to the Missouri Relays (track and field) held at Audrey J. Walton Stadium.
