NORMAN, Okla. - The Missouri gymnastics team scored a 193.825 to finish second to host Oklahoma on Friday night at the Howard McCasland Field House in Norman, Okla. The Sooners scored a 196.125 on the night to place first while Central Michigan placed third with a 191.125.
"Overall I'm pleased with our performance tonight," Missouri Head Coach Rob Drass said. "I think we're making progress but now it's time to put a whole meet together."
In their opening rotation, Mizzou recorded a 48.125 on bars. Junior Julie Abaray led the way with a 9.700 to tie for third on the event while junior Ashley Khederian and sophomore Adrianne Perry each notched a 9.625.
The Tigers struggled on beam with a 48.100 but the event was highlighted by a career high 9.900 from sophomore Alicia Hatcher, who tied for third place. Senior Amanda Pezzullo also impressed with a 9.800, while junior Nikki Bowman recorded a 9.750 on the event.
Mizzou rebounded well on floor to post a season high 48.900. Pezzullo and freshman Danielle Guider tied for third place as the pair scored a 9.825 apiece to pace the Tigers. Additionally, Abaray notched a 9.775 and Hatcher had a 9.750.
In the final rotation, the Tigers closed out the night with a 48.700 on vault. Perry tied her career high and posted a team high 9.875 to tie for the event title. Khederian and Pezzullo each recorded a 9.775. In the vault lineup for the first time in her career, freshman Becky Scholle did not disappoint with a 9.725.
"We did a great job on bars, the scoring was tight but we did a better job on the event this week than the past few weeks," Drass said. "We hit a bump on beam, it was a hit one, miss one kind of feel. But its beam, it happens occasionally. The routines we hit were some of the best we've done all year. That was a floor outing by far. Floor is one of those events where the endurance kicks in later and I think it's there for us now. Vault was a little rough but it wasn't bad."
The Tigers return home on Friday, Jan. 19 for a conference matchup with No. 5 Nebraska at 7 p.m. in the Hearnes Center. Mizzou then travels to Ames, Iowa, for a meet against No. 6 Iowa State on Friday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m.
