Columbia, Mo. - The Missouri softball team (20-18, 4-5) split its two-game series with Oklahoma State (17-22, 3-8) after dropping a 5-1 loss at University Field today. Oklahoma State scored three of its runs in the top of the seventh inning and the Tigers were unable to rebound in the final frame of play.
Missouri took its only lead of the game in the first inning when OSU pitcher Jessica Hoppock walked in the Tiger's only run of the game. Leadoff batter freshman Gina Schneider (Liberty, Mo.) singled through the right side to reach first, junior leftfielder Leanne Bowers (Arnold, Mo.) walked and redshirt sophomore Micaela Minner (Sanger, Texas) singled to centerfield on a 1-1 count that loaded the bases. Senior outfielder Janessa Roening (Port Angeles, Wash.). was next at the plate and drew four balls from Hoppock advancing Schneider home.
The Cowgirls tied the game in the top of the second inning and added their second run in the sixth before coming on strong offensively in the seventh. Sophomore starter Jen Bruck (St. Peters, Mo.) gave up all five earned runs on four hits, but struckout six of the 33 batters she faced. The loss dropped Bruck to 18-13 on the season.
Four Tigers managed hits today against Hoppock. Junior second baseman Sarah Stringer (Auxvasse, Mo.) hit a fourth inning single to left field while Bruck's seventh inning two out knock helped her to first base.
