Columbia, Mo. - Missouri suffered a 4-0 loss to No. 21 Louisville in the third and final game of a three-game series with the Cardinals at University Field. With the loss, Missouri falls to 15-11 on the season and pitcher Jen Bruck (St. Peters, Mo.) moves to 13-8. The eighth meeting between the two teams, Louisville leads 6-2 in a series that dates back to 2000.
Unable to put anything together offensively, the Tigers were down 4-0 before junior second baseman Sarah Stringer (Auxvasse, Mo.) recorded Missouri's first hit of the game, a singe up the middle, in the bottom of the fifth inning. Stringer finished the day 2-for-3 with her second two-out single up the middle in the bottom of the seventh. Bruck managed Missouri's second hit, a leadoff single down the right field line in the sixth.
Louisville scattered balls throughout the field, scoring four runs on five hits in the first two innings of play.
Bruck hurled the first four and two-thirds innings before freshman Megan Dennis (Liberty, Mo.) entered in relief. Dennis had a solid outing, twirling two and one-thirds innings without giving up any hits, runs or walks.
The Tigers will travel to Springfield, Mo., Tuesday, March 21, for a 4 p.m. (CST) game against the Missouri State Bears. Earlier in the season, the Tigers lost a 9-7 game to the Bears at the Missouri State Spring Classic, March 4.
