Missouri Wrestling Team Holds Off Central Missouri State 45-6

Columbia, Mo. - Wrestling in-state rival Central Missouri State in the Hearnes Center, the 12th ranked Tigers held off the Mules 45-6, through a series of five falls, one technical fall, one major decision and two consecutive decisions. Sophomore Ben Askren (174) recorded his 13th fall of the season, and moved within six pins of setting a new Missouri season falls record.
Opening the night at 149 pounds, senior Cody Greene (No. 18) scored Missouri's first of five falls against CMSU. Before pinning Vince Bertucci in 4:37, Greene racked up 15 points, with nine coming from three-point nearfalls.
With a perfect 18-0 season record to his name, Askren (No. 1) remains the only unbeaten MU starter and improves to 50-5 on his career. Competing against Jesse Sheets at 174 pounds, Askren scored first with a takedown and followed with a three-point nearfall. After managing an escape at the one minute mark, Sheets was again driven to the mat put on his back for the eventual 2:58 pin.
True freshman Chase Wetenkamp (HWT) recorded the evening's fastest fall in 1:15. Scoring a takedown 15 seconds into the match, Wetenkamp was able to stick Kyle Wellington on his back for his 10th pin of the season.
Senior Tyron Woodley (No. 8) and sophomore Matt Pell (No. 9) each scored a fall in their respective match, with Woodley's coming in 2:10 and Pell's clocked at 2:39.
The Tigers will travel to New York City for a dual with No. 6 Lehigh in the historic New York Athletic Club, Tuesday, Jan. 11, at 6:30 p.m. CT. The dual will be televised on CSTV, Wednesday, Jan. 12, at 9 p.m. (CT). For local Columbia residents, CSTV is available through DirecTV on channel 610. Following Missouri's matchup with Lehigh, the Tigers will head South to Hampton, Va., for the Virginia Duals, Jan. 14 and 15.
