Provo, Utah-Keeping pace with their series record last season, the Mizzou Tigers again split its run against the Brigham Young Cougars going 1-1 in 2004. After defeating BYU to win the Cat Classic title earlier in the year, Mizzou dropped its dual meet to the Cougars 196.725-195.525. The loss takes Missouri to an 8-3 record on the year and brings the Tigers' all-time series record against BYU to 11-7, with an 0-4 record in Provo.
The Tigers opened to a shaky start scoring a 48.550 on the uneven bars. Senior veterans Andrea Nervig and Lindsay Davis lead Mizzou scoring a 9.850 and 9.800 respectively on the event. Alisha Robinson contributed a 9.775 and Kelley Anderson helped with a 9.725, but forced to count a flawed routine in their scoring quint, the Tigers fell behind the Cougars 49.175-48.500 following the first round of competition.
Missouri began to edge the Cougars during the second rotation scoring a 49.200 on vault. Robinson led the charge scoring a 9.925 to win the event followed by freshman Amanda Pezzullo who contributed a career-high 9.900 to the Tiger cause. Also bolstering Mizzou, Lauren Schwartzman scored a 9.850 and vault specialist Whitney Crater put up a 9.825. The Tigers' 49.200 ties Mizzou's fourth-highest team vault score for the third time in program history.
Foreshadowing another solid showing on the floor exercise, Davis kicked the Tigers off scoring a career-high 9.875, while Pezzullo mimicked the mark to tie a career-record. Further igniting the Mizzou effort, Robinson performed a near perfect routine inspiring a 9.950 rally to win the event. Rounding out the Tiger's contributing scores, Nervig earned a 9.750 and Katie Roets put up a 9.725 to tally a 49.175 team score.
Closing the gap heading into the final rotation, BYU led Mizzou by just .225 points (147.150-146.925). The Tigers were unable to overpower the Cougars however, scoring a disappointing 48.600 on beam. Pezzullo led Mizzou off on the event posting a 9.725. After taking two falls on the event, Andersen brought Mizzou up with a 9.850 routine. Rachel Bridges scored a 9.875 and Schwartzman rounded out the meet scoring a 9.900 on beam.
Returning to the Hearnes Center after a two-meet hiatus, the Tigers face Big 12 Conference rival Oklahoma on Sun., Feb. 29 at 2:00 p.m.
