RIGA, Latvia - Competition wrapped-up late Sunday morning in the 2004 European Cup Combined Event Championships. Tiger post-collegian Knut Sommerfeldt finished in ninth overall. Fellow Norwegian, brother, and Missouri freshman Bjorn Sommerfeldt took 20th.
Knut scored 7,069 points to take the ninth spot, scoring the most points in the 110-meter hurdles and the long jump. Bjorn also had the 110-meter hurdles and the long jump as his high-scoring events to give him 6,693 points for his 20th place finish. Missouri sophomore Hans Uldal did not finish the competition.
Latvia's Janis Karlivans won the decathlon with 7,831 points, helping his country to the overall team scoring title.
Next for Missouri track and field is the U.S. Track & Field Olympic Trials which begin Friday, July 9th.
