The University of Missouri women's cross country finished 16th at the NCAA Cross Country National Championships in Terre Haute, Indiana today. That is the Tigers top national rank since finishing 16th in 2000. The Tigers, ranked 16th coming into the national meet, finished ahead of 15 teams in 31 team field. Mizzou was led, as they have all season long, by Amanda Bales and Valerie Lauver. Bales finished 53rd and Lauver finished 54th, .2 seconds behind Bales. Bales finished 6K course in 20:51.3 followed by Lauver at 20:51.5. Seniors Amy Chipman, Kim Moore, and sophomore Serena Ramsey also scored points for the Tigers.
Missouri assistant cross country coach Rebecca Wilmes was excited about the team's performance today, "We had a fantastic season and the girls just did an awesome job today. We've come together throughout the season. We had a solid day, we were ranked 16th and we finished 16th. We beat some good teams today and we got a great experience." Wilmes said the future looks bright for Tiger cross country, "This is something we can build upon. You can't simulate what it's like to be at this meet. Valerie, Amanda, and Serena all gained a valuable experience at this caliber of a meet."
The Tigers finish the year ranked 16th nationally. The harriers also captured team victories at four meets this year, including the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship, and two Big 12 Runner of Week awards.
