Ten Missouri Runners Land on Academic Big 12 Teams

Ten University of Missouri cross country runners were named to either the first or second Academic All-Big 12 teams today, as announced by the Big 12. Four Missouri men and four Missouri women were first team selections and one Missouri women and on Missouri man were named to the second team. Senior Kim Moore, sophomore Amanda Bales, sophomore Serena Ramsey, and sophomore Lesley Smith all made the Academic Big 12 first team and senior Ashley McLeod was named to the second team. Ramsey led the Tigers with a 4.0 GPA. On the men's side senior Andrew Norton, junior Ryan Hampton, sophomore David Mertens, and sophomore Neville Miller were named to the first team and senior Tim Dunne garnered second team honors.
To qualify for the Academic All-Big 12 first team, student-athletes had to achieve a 3.2 GPA and participate in 60% of the teams meets. Qualifications for the second team are to have a GPA between 3.0 and 3.19 and participate in 60% of the meets. The men's and women's cross country teams will be in action on Saturday when they host the 2002 Big 12 Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Gustin Golf Course.
