For the second time this year the Big 12 has named a University of Missouri runner Big 12 Runner of the Week. This week Tiger freshman Amanda Bales was named co-Big 12 Runner of the Week with Amy Mortimer of Kansas State. Last week, Bales finished fourth at the Brother Doyle Meet of Champions in New York where her 6K time of 21:08.4 was the fastest in Mizzou history. The native of Bettendorf, Iowa helped lead the Tigers to a team victory over three nationally ranked teams and 23 teams overall. Five Missouri runners finished in the Top 25 at the meet.
Two weeks ago Mizzou freshman Valerie Lauver was named Big 12 Runner of the Week after she won the individual title at the season opening Missouri Cross Country Challenge. In the latest national cross country polls released by FinishLynx the Missouri women are ranked at number 20. Both the men's and women's cross country teams head to Chicago this week for the Loyola Lakefront Invitational.
