One of the all-time greats to ever don a Mizzou leotard, Shire was an all-around standout who was a dynamic and powerful tumbler for the Tigers over a three-year period after transferring to Mizzou following her freshman season at Utah. She won all-America honors four times at Mizzou, including a runner-up finish in the floor exercise at the 2010 NCAA Championships. She had a dominant senior season in 2010 and was one of four finalists for the Honda Award, given to the nation’s top gymnast, having won 11 different all-around meet titles and 36 event titles during the season (a school season record). She was a two-time Big 12 Conference Gymnast of the Year (2009, 2010), after winning the Big 12 all-around championship. She twice was named the South Central Region Gymnast of the Year (2009-10). Shire won the Big 12 vault title in 2009 and 2010 and was also the Big 12 balance beam champ in 2009. She claimed four NCAA Regional event championships, and she helped lead Mizzou to its first NCAA Championship finals team appearance in the 12-team era. She left MU with three individual records: all-around (39.725), uneven bars (9.950) and floor exercise (9.975). She was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year in her first year competing for the Tigers (2008). In 2009 and 2010, she was named the Women’s Intersport Network Collegiate Sportswoman of the Year and the University of Missouri Female Athlete of the Year. As a freshman at Utah, she helped the Utes to a runner-up finish at the NCAA Championships. After her competitive career, she worked as director of operations for the MU gymnastics program, before moving on to Southeast Missouri State where she was assistant gymnastics coach from 2012-15. After a year as a volunteer assistant coach at Michigan, she got her first head coaching job at Eastern Michigan in 2016. The next year, she was named head coach at Penn State. She is a double graduate of Missouri, earning a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies with an emphasis in communication and business in 2010, in addition to a master of education in counseling psychology with an emphasis in sport psychology in 2012.
