A native of Manchester, Missouri, Davis became one of Mizzou’s top distance runners ever, and along the way, helped establish MU as one of the nation’s premier distance programs. She was a two-time all-American in track, at 800 meters (12th in 1995 NCAA Indoor Championships) and at 1,500 meters (11th in 1997 NCAA Outdoor Championships). She won the 1996 NCAA Midwest Regional cross country championship, and twice led the Tiger harriers to team appearances in the NCAA Championships. Rebecca was named NCAA all-district in cross country three times (1994-96) and won two Big Eight Conference titles (1995 indoor 800 meters; 1995 indoor distance medley relay). She also won championships at the Drake Relays and the Kansas Relays and was an Olympic Trials qualifier at 1,500 meters in 2000. Davis was the Big Eight Newcomer of the Year in both cross country and track in 1993-94. An outstanding student, she was a three-time academic all-American in cross country and was first-team academic all-conference eight times. She graduated magna cum laude in 1997 with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education and was an assistant coach for the Mizzou track and cross country programs for a number of years before becoming a teacher in the Columbia Public Schools. Her husband, former MU track and cross country standout Jared Wilmes, also coached the cross country and track teams at MU and has also coached at the high school level in Columbia.
