A native of St. Louis, Sheehan was a two-sport star for Missouri from 1946-1949. In football, he was twice an all-conference end leading the Tigers and the Big Seven Conference in receiving in 1947 and ‘48. He was selected for the College All-Star Game in 1949, and was called by at least one observer, “the best blocking end I ever saw.” He was a second-team all-American as a senior. In track, Sheehan lettered in 1943, ‘46-48. He was the Big Seven discus champion from 1946-48 and earned all-America honors in that event in 1947 and ‘48. During his career, he established both the MU and conference discus records. He was a member of three straight Missouri track teams that won outdoor conference championships from 1947-49. He worked as a Big Eight Conference football official from 1961-71, working many games of national importance, including six bowl games. He was working as superintendent of schools in the Normandy School District in St. Louis when he was tabbed to return to MU as director of athletics from 1972-78. He closed his career as superintendent of schools in Brookfield, Missouri. Sheehan was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
