Sand, from Burnsville, Minnesota, was one of Missouri’s brightest gymnastics stars during her career from 1989-92. She led the Tigers to its only Big Eight Conference championship in 1992 by winning the vault (9.65), beam (9.80) and floor (9.80) and finished second in the all-around. She also won a Big Eight beam title in 1991. Sand is one of only four gymnasts in school history to earn all-conference honors in three different years, having accomplished the feat in 1990-91-92. In each of those seasons, Missouri qualified for the NCAA Regionals with a high finish of fourth in 1992.
