Wiebe, from Newton, Kansas, was a hurdler for Coach Tom Botts at the University of Missouri from 1957-59. In ’57 he was the conference champion in the 60-yard dash and anchored MU’s shuttle hurdle relay team at the Drake Relays that won the event in a meet, stadium, NCAA, American and world record time. In 1961, he finished second in the U.S. Indoor Championships at Madison Square Garden in a photo-finish to world record holder Frank Budd. He is vice provost of global learning at Missouri University of Science and Technology. His previous positions included dean of the School of Extended Learning, chair of the Engineering Management Department and a member of the faculty. He has served as president of Mizzou’s Varsity M board of directors, an association of former athletes dedicated to promoting academic and athletic excellence among student athletes at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
