A native of St. Louis, Ault was standout track performer at Mizzou in the 1940s. He won Big Six Conference outdoor titles in the 220-yard hurdles in 1946 and ‘47 and Big Seven Conference outdoor crowns in the same event in 1948 and ‘49. He was the league’s quarter-mile champion in 1947 and ‘49. Ault won a spot on the U.S. Olympic team and placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles in the 1948 Olympic Games in London. Ault spent a long career as a coach and athletic director at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri and was also known as one of the nation’s premier track and field officials and starters. He was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 1993.
