An accomplished athlete from the time she lettered as a member of the boys’ cross country team at Hannibal High School, Fischer’s athletic success continued well past her collegiate career. At MU, she was a four-time all-American in cross country and track and set six school records in the two-mile run (indoors), the three-mile run (indoors) and the 10,000-meter run (outdoors). An academic all-American, too, she was named Phi Beta Kappa and received Big Eight Conference and NCAA post-graduate scholarships in 1985. After graduation she excelled in triathlon competition and received all-America recognition from the USA Triathlon Federation in 1995 and ‘96. She was a multi-event medalist at the Show-Me State Games multiple times and was named the female athlete of the games in 1996. She spent time working as the art director of “Mizzou,” the award-winning magazine of the MU Alumni Association, then went to medical school and became a radiologist. She works at Columbia’s Veterans Hospital.
