2005: Making her first collegiate start April 27 at home against North Dakota State, Simons scored one run, had three hits and smashed two doubles on the way to Missouri's 8-0 shutout of the Bison. Simons played in 24 of the Tiger's games and made 21 appearances at the plate, blasting her first career triple in Missouri's March 9 game against Ball State. Four of Simons' five hits went for extra bases. From her work in the outfield, Simons recorded a season-high three putouts in the April 27 game against North Dakota State. Serving as a backup outfielder, Simons had a perfect fielding percentage. Simons stole one base in one attempt in Missouri's Feb. 12 game against 10th-ranked Florida State in the Seminole Classic in Tallahassee, Fla.
Kearney High School: Simons was a four-year member of the Kearney High School softball team that finished second at the Missouri State Championships in 2003 and was a sectional qualifier in 2004. For her roll in center field, Simons earned first team all-conference honors as a freshman (2001), junior (2003) and senior (2004), bringing home second team all-conference as a sophomore (2002). Led by Head Coach Paul Lorbert, Simons was named second team all-district in 2002 and first team all-district, all-region and all-metro back-to-back years as a junior and senior. Upon graduation, Simons left the Bulldogs as a leader in hits (115), doubles (19), triples (12), walks (39), runs scored (104) and RBI (68). Outside of softball, Simons was a member of the basketball and track teams and earned 10 letters before graduating in 2004. Simons was a member of the athletic academic team, honor roll and National Honor Society for her efforts in the classroom and earned an academic letter. Simons played for the White Sox club team coached by Jason Moss and Sarah Hollister.
Personal: Sara Simons was born Aug. 1, 1985, in Kansas City, Mo., to parents Gary and Liz Simons. Simons has one brother, Chris, and is majoring in nursing.
