COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Athletics is ranked 21st in the first reveal of the 2017-18 Learfield Directors' Cup winter standings released today by NACDA. Mizzou was ranked 20th in the first winter reveal a year ago and then went on to finish 15th in the final winter standings which set the table for a school-record 33rd-place finish in the final 2016-17 Directors' Cup rankings.
Mizzou, which has scored 336.0 points to tie Louisville for 21st-place in the 2017-18 all-sports standings, ranks fifth among SEC institutions behind No. 12 Kentucky, No. 13 Georgia, No. 15 Florida and No. 16 Arkansas, and ahead of No. 23 Texas A&M, No. 24 Alabama and No. 31 Auburn. Other SEC institutions ranked in the Directors' Cup Top 50 include No. 42 South Carolina, No 47 LSU and No. 50 Tennessee.
The Tigers' success has been fueled by three Top 16 national finishes-- a sixth-place performance by Wrestling, a ninth-place Women's Indoor Track & Field showing, the 15th-place effort by Women's Swimming & Diving and Mizzou Volleyball's second-straight NCAA Sweet 16 trip.
In addition to those four programs, Mizzou Football, Women's Cross Country and Men's Indoor Track & Field have scored 2017-18 Directors' Cup points, and four more MU programs—Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, Men's Swimming & Diving and Women's Gymnastics will register points before the final winter standings are released in late April.
The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships. To review updated scoring changes for the 2017-18 year, please click here.
