Ward posts sixth-best program triple jump, Jacobs ninth-best shot put mark
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Track & Field wrapped up competition at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., and the Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tenn., on Saturday. On the day, 11 Tigers posted top-10 finishes, including redshirt freshman Ja'Mari Ward (Cahokia, Ill.) and redshirt junior Gabi Jacobs (Bloomington, Ill.), who each recorded program top-10 marks.
NOTABLE FINISHES
Ward posted his second top-10 program mark in as many days with his performance in the triple jump at the Tyson Invitational. In a flight which featured five professional jumpers, Ward posted a mark of 15.66m (51-4.5) to finish ninth. The jump ranks sixth all-time in program history, and ranks just outside the top-16 mark needed to earn a trip to the NCAA Indoor Championships, ranking 21st in the NCAA this season. Yesterday, Ward posted the fifth-best long jump mark in program history with a leap of 7.71m (25-3.5).
In the women's shot put, Jacobs joined the top-10 list at No. 9 with a throw of 15.09m (49-6.25) to finish fifth overall. It's the first indoor top-10 program mark of Jacobs' career, as the Tiger junior holds the school record in the outdoor discus, and the seventh-best outdoor shot put mark. Jacobs was one of three Tigers to post personal bests in the shot put, as redshirt freshman Emily Stauffer (Reinholds, Pa.) finished seventh at 14.83m (48-8) and freshman Jordan Speer (Dighton, Kan.) finished 15th at 13.87m (45-6.25).
Over in the Music City, the freshman duo of Chris Conrad (O'Fallon, Mo.) and Austin Hindman (Wildwood, Mo.) each recorded notable finishes. Conrad finished sixth in the 800m run at 1:51.48, while Hindman finished eighth in the 3000m run at 8:16.16. Mizzou also ran a 4x400m relay for the first time this season, as the team of sophomore Robert Kuhlmann (Lake Villa, Ill.), redshirt senior Jerrad Mason (Bridgetown, Barbados), senior Mark Sheridan (Ballwin, Mo.) and redshirt senior Ben Goodman (Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished third at 3:19.01.
