Lassiter is one of 14 members in the SEC’s 2018 Class of Women’s Legends
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Former Mizzou Women's Basketball forward Amanda Lassiter was named to the Southeastern Conference 2018 Class of Women's Legends, as announced by the league. The Class of Legends showcases former student-athletes, coaches and administrators from all 14 member institutions. Lassiter and the rest of the class will be honored at the 2018 SEC Women's Basketball Tournament from Feb. 28-March 4 in Nashville, Tenn., during halftime of each team's first game.
Lassiter is one of the most decorated Tigers in program history and was Mizzou's first ever WNBA Draft Pick, selected by the Houston Comets in the first round of the 2001 Draft. Lassiter shined at Mizzou from 1999-2001, when she led the Tigers to a 40-22 record and a trip to the Sweet 16 in the 2001 NCAA Tournament. That season, she averaged 19.1 points per game, set a single-season school record with 98 steals and racked up a team-high 64 blocked shots. That landed her 2001 Real Sports Magazine Second-Team All-American and Full Court Press Third-Team All-American honors and First-Team All-Big 12 recognition.
Lassiter finished her eligibility at Mizzou with 1,028 career points, 184 steals and 133 blocked shots. By the end of her career in 2001, she was in the Mizzou career top-10 in three-pointers made (3rd), blocked shots (3rd), points per game (4th) and 3-point field goal percentage (7th). She still ranks 33rd on Mizzou's all-time scoring list.
On one memorable night, Lassiter collected 11 steals in a single game against San Diego State. To this day, that remains a Mizzou school record and a Big 12 conference record. Despite playing just two seasons with the Tigers, Lassiter still ranks 10th all-time at Mizzou in career steals with 184.
Lassiter went on to have an illustrious professional career, playing more than a decade of professional basketball, including six seasons in the WNBA. She was inducted into the Mizzou Hall of Fame in 2009.
