@MizzouTennis Starts Road Trip With 4-2 Win at Cornell

Middlebrooks, Wright each pick up two wins
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Mizzou Tennis team used a strong doubles point en route to a 4-2 win over Cornell on Friday evening at the Reis Tennis Center.
The Tigers (3-0) duo of sophomore Mackenzy Middlebrooks (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and freshman Ellie Wright (Gainesville, Fla.) started things off with a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles to register their fourth win together this season. Mizzou clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win from sophomore Serena Nash (Bradford, England) and senior Clare Raley (Atlanta, Ga.).
Freshman Taylor Gruber (Spicewood, Texas) picked up her second dual win in as many tries in her young Mizzou career with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles. Wright picked up her third straight singles win on the year at No. 3, 6-2, 6-2, and Middlebrooks clinched the win with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 4.
"It was a hard-fought win tonight against a good Cornell team," said Head Coach Colt Gaston. "This was definitely an all-around team effort and I was very proud of the heart and fight each girl showed out there today."
UP NEXT
The Tigers have a day off from competition, but remain in Ithaca in advance of a pair of neutral-site matches Sunday. Mizzou faces Army West Point at 8 a.m. CT, then wraps up the road trip with a Noon match vs. Binghamton.
