Through the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, Couzens will be an honorary member of Mizzou baseball in 2018
Thursday night was a special night for Columbia, Mo., native Brandon Couzens as he signed his National Letter of Intent to join Mizzou Baseball for the 2018 season. Couzens, in conjunction with the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, signed his national letter of intent Friday, making him eligible to join Mizzou's team immediately. Friends of Jaclyn is a foundation that aims to improve the quality of life for children battling pediatric brain tumors and other childhood cancers by pairing them with local teams, clubs and community groups.
"We are so happy that Brandon will be joining us in 2018," Bieser said. "Brandon embodies so many of the characteristics that we strive to mold our program around. His toughness and undeniably positive attitude is evident in his unwavering determination in his battle against cancer. We are so happy that he will be around our players throughout the year. We look forward to getting to know him and his entire family and we are hopeful that some of his tremendous resolve will inspire our players to bring their best every day."
Thursday night, the entire Mizzou team, coaching staff and Truman the Tiger greeted Brandon inside the McArtor Baseball Facility. Coach Bieser then brought Brandon into the team's meeting room where he signed his official NLI in front of an elated round of applause from everyone in attendance. He and Bieser then answered questions in a press conference.
Next up, Coach Bieser and Truman the Tiger took Brandon to his very own personalized locker, featuring his very own No. 51 jersey. And while candy and soda are usually prohibited inside the Mizzou clubhouse, Brandon had his three favorites – Hershey Bar, M&Ms and Pibb Extra – waiting in his locker.
Next up, he took pictures with the team and his family before heading out to Simmons Field for a little base running and other drills with the team.
