Cunningham and Dubrick run the fifth- and sixth-fastest indoor 3000m run times in program history, respectively
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Mizzou Track & Field closed competition in the Music City with two top-10 program marks at the Vanderbilt Invitational Saturday. Both top-10 marks came in the 3000m run, as redshirt senior Megan Cunningham (Eureka, Mo.) clocked the fifth-fastest program time in the women's race, while redshirt senior Marc Dubrick (DeKalb, Ill.) notched the sixth-fastest program time in the men's race.
NOTABLE FINISHES
Cunningham placed third in the 3000m run with a time of 9:19.07, surpassing teammate redshirt junior Jamie Kempfer's (Festus, Mo.) time of 9:26.36 to rank fifth in program history. The Tiger senior bested her previous best mark (9:47.83) by 28 seconds, a time which she recorded on Jan. 30, 2015, at the Armory Track Invitational.
Dubrick clocked a time of 8:12.30 in the men's race to finish seventh and record the sixth-fastest men's indoor 3000m run time in program history. Dubrick surpassed Max Storms (8:12.99, 2014) to claim his first top-10 mark for Mizzou, and bested his previous personal best mark of 8:21.47, which he set at last season's SEC Indoor Championships (Feb. 24, 2017).
Mizzou also had three impressive marks in the 800m run, as freshman Chris Conrad (O'Fallon, Ill.) finished fourth in the men's race, while sophomore Karina Liz (Aurora, Ill.) and redshirt senior Valeska Halamicek (Weldon Spring, Mo.) finished 14th and 17th, respectively, in the women's race. Conrad crossed the finish line in fourth place at 1:49.84, just narrowly missing out on the top-10 list by a second, while Liz posted a personal record time of 2:12.89 and Halamicek a time of 2:13.71.
In field events, Mizzou had four top-15 finishes in the shot put, two each from the men and the women. For the men, redshirt junior Will Fife (Springfield, Mo.) finished 12th with a throw of 16.36m (53-8.25), while redshirt junior Avery Carter (Lee's Summit, Mo.) finished 13th at 16.27m (53-4.50). For the women, redshirt junior Gabi Jacobs (Bloomington, Ill.) finished 12th with a toss of 14.38m (47-2.25), while redshirt freshman Emily Stauffer (Reinholds, Penn.) finished 13th at 14.11m (46-3.50).
QUOTABLES
Mizzou Head Coach Brett Halter
"Sensational efforts from Megan (Cunningham) and Marc (Dubrick) in the 3k's, both ran smart and gritty. I was pleased with our efforts in the 800m as well. It was nice to see Karina and Valeska compete well as they work their way back into race shape, and exciting to see Chris run a personal best in his first collegiate effort at the distance, he will certainly get better from here. We are looking forward to have our full team in action in New York next weekend."
UP NEXT
Next, Mizzou will head out east to the Big Apple for the Dr. Sander Invitational, Jan. 26-27, in New York City, N.Y.
