In conjunction with Friends of Jaclyn, Brandon will be an honorary member of Mizzou’s team in 2018
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Baseball head coach Steve Bieser is excited to announce that elite-level prospect Brandon Couzens will join the program for the upcoming 2018 season. Couzens, in conjunction with the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, signed his national letter of intent Friday, making him eligible to join Mizzou's team immediately. Friends of Jaclyn is a foundation that aims to improve the quality of life for children battling pediatric brain tumors and other childhood cancers by pairing them with local teams, clubs and community groups. Brandon will meet his new teammates Monday (Jan. 15) at 10 a.m.
"We are so happy that Brandon will be joining us in 2018," Bieser said. "Brandon embodies so many of the characteristics that we strive to mold our program around. His toughness and undeniably positive attitude is evident in his unwavering determination in his battle against cancer. We are so happy that he will be around our players Monday and throughout the year. We look forward to getting to know him and his entire family and we are hopeful that some of his tremendous resolve will inspire our players to bring their best every day."
Earlier this year, Brandon was suffering from severe headaches. His mother, Somer, took him to a chiropractor and a massage therapist at first, hoping that treatment from both would help his chronic headaches. After each of those failed to alleviate the pain, Brandon made a trip to the doctor and it was discovered that he had a brain tumor - medulloblastoma. He underwent surgery on May 15, 2017, and has been undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments since, tackling each day with a steadfast resolve.
Brandon and his family will be officially introduced to Mizzou Baseball Monday (Jan. 15) at the McArtor Baseball Facility. He will take a facility tour, meet the team and staff and take part in a friendly press conference with the team.
