THE COMPETITION
The Tigers will compete against in-state foes Lindenwood, Maryville, Missouri S&T, Missouri State, and Washington University at the meet. All teams besides Missouri S&T (men only) have men's and women's programs.
MEN'S OUTLOOK
The men's program enters 2017-18 after a ninth-place finish at the 2017 NCAA Championships, the second-best finish in program history. The Tiger men return six All-Americans in 2017-18: senior Jordy Groters, juniors Sam Coffman, Kyle Goodwin, Luke Mankus and Mikel Schreuders, and sophomore Daniel Hein. Groters and Schreuders also competed at this summer's FINA World Championships, representing Aruba.
WOMEN'S OUTLOOK
On the women's side, Mizzou returns a good portion of its roster that took 13th at last year's NCAA Championships. Seven Tiger women return to the pool and diving well as All-Americans, three of whom who have claimed individual honors in their careers. Returning All-Americans include seniors Sharli Brady, Rachel Hayden, Madeline McKernan, Erin Metzger-Seymour, Hannah Stevens and Kira Zubar and junior Maddie Gehrke.
THREE TIGERS REPRESENTED HOME COUNTRIES AT 2017 FINA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Three returning Tigers competed at this summer's FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hannah Stevens, who represented the United States, and Jordy Groters and Mikel Schreuders, both of whom swam for Aruba. Stevens narrowly missed a top-eight spot in the 50m back, as she advanced to the semifinals but finished ninth, one spot out of the event final.
STEVENS WITH A BREAKOUT OFFSEASON
Senior Hannah Stevens made a name for herself on a national and international level this summer. She started by taking home the 50m national title at the 2017 Phillips 66 U.S. National Championships, earning her a spot on Team USA's World Championship and World University Games teams. After swimming the 50m back at Worlds, Stevens claimed three medals in August's World University Games in Taipei. She won silver in the 100m back, silver in the 50m back and silver as a part of the U.S.'s 4x100 medley relay team.
GUTIERREZ LOZANO CLAIMS MEN'S OPEN WATER NATIONAL TITLE
Redshirt sophomore Giovanni Gutierrez Lozano won the CSCAA Men's Open Water National Title on Sept. 16. Swimming at the second annual College Swimming Coaches Association of America National Collegiate Open Water Championship in Lawrence, Kansas, Gutierrez Lozano swam a 59:25:05 to win the 5,000 meter race (3.1 miles) by over two and a half minutes.
BRADY WINS 400M TITLE AT U.S. OPEN
Senior Sharli Brady won the women's 400 IM title at the June's U.S. Open Swimming Championships in East Meadow, New York. She sat second after the breaststroke leg but outsplit the leader 1:04.64-1:05.96 in the freestyle to pull into first and claim the victory. Her time of 4:42.70 was a new personal best, besting her previous low of 4:44.28 set in June. Brady dropped more than eight seconds off her 400 IM LCM time from last year's Olympic Trials. The U.S. Open is a championship meet sanctioned by USA Swimming and is open to U.S. and international swimmers.
