COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Men's and Women's Basketball will host a free basketball clinic for area boys (K-6) and girls (K-8) on Saturday, Sept. 9, at Douglass Park, it was announced Wednesday.
Located at 400 North Providence Road, Douglass Park, is one of Columbia's largest gathering places for local children. The Tigers will teach drills over the two-hour clinic (10 a.m.-Noon), as well as speak to participants in a Q&A forum.
"The Columbia community means so much to us," head women's basketball coach Robin Pingeton said. "Working alongside the community is an integral part of our culture at Mizzou and we are excited to give back by interacting with kids and teaching them the game we love. We are looking for a big turnout and hope our fans can come join us for a fun morning."
Additionally, the two Mizzou programs will play contests with participants, hold prize give-a-ways and sign autographs following the completion of basketball drills.
"The Columbia community has welcomed my family," head men's basketball coach Cuonzo Martin said. "It's our program's goal to always give back and be a part of the community. This clinic at Douglass Park is not only a great opportunity for young Mizzou fans to meet our student-athletes, but it will be a chance for our teams to make a positive impact on many of our local youth."
Parents are reminded that NCAA recruiting rules disallow Mizzou's basketball programs from providing instruction to boys above the sixth grade and to girls above the eighth grade. Clinic participants can range from kindergarten to sixth grade for boys and from kindergarten to eighth grade for girls.
