COLUMBIA, Mo. – Three Tigers will compete in this week's World University Games in Taipei, Aug. 20-26, at the National Taiwan Sport University Swimming Pool. Rising senior Hannah Stevens (Lexington, Ohio) will swim for Team USA, while 2017 seniors Nadine Laemmler and Fabian Schwingenschlogel will represent Germany.
Stevens concludes a busy summer at the World University Games. She is one of only two members of Team USA to compete at both the 2017 FINA World Championships and the 2017 World University Games. The Tiger qualified to swim the 50 and 100 back in Taipei, and will also swim on the U.S. women's 4x100 medley relay team.
The rising senior took ninth in the 50 back at the recent World Championships, missing a spot in the finals by one placement. Stevens notched a 27.63 in Budapest to tie her time she notched to claim the U.S. 50 back national title in June at the Phillips 66 National Championships.
A two-time U.S. National Team member, Stevens finished third in the 100y back at the 2016 NCAA Champions and fifth in the 100m back at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. She owns 10 total All-American honors, five first team and five honorable mention. She also claimed All-Southeastern Conference second team honors in 2017 with a runner-up finish in the 100y back at the SEC Championships.
Schwingenschloegl is set to swim the 50, 100 and 200 breast and the 4x100 medley relay for Germany. A nine-time All-American in only two years with Mizzou, Schwingenschloegl claimed Missouri's first national title when he won the 100 breast at the 2016 NCAA Championships. He narrowly missed defending his title in March, when he took second in the same event at the 2017 Championships. Schwingenschloegl's 2017 time, which was faster than his winning time in 2016, made him the third-fastest performer in history in the 100y breast.
Also representing Germany is Nadine Laemmler, who is schedule to compete in the 50, 100 and 200 back and on Germany's 4x100 medley relay team. Laemmler earned back-to-back seventh-place finishes in the 100 back at the 2016 and 2017 NCAA Championships. She also took ninth in the 200 back in 2017 and 16th in 2016. Overall, she claimed five first team and three honorable mention All-America honors in her two years with the Tiger program.
