Mizzou Enjoys a Day Off from On-Field Activity
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Football received a much-deserved day off of the Kadlec Practice Fields halfway through week three of #MIZCAMP17. The change in schedule was unexpected, but not unappreciated by the players, who used the opportunity to focus on mental preparation, and give their bodies a rest before the upcoming season.
"It was pretty good, very unexpected," redshirt junior OL Paul Adams said. "We came in today, had a normal breakfast, then we were told we weren't getting our ankles taped. It wasn't an off day though. Mentally, we got a lot better today. It's huge for our bodies. This was a nice little day to recover. Now, tomorrow should be one of our better practices."
The break from physical drills also provided a chance for the coaching staff to delve deep into the film room and continue to build upon the work already put in throughout camp.
"The off day gives our legs a break," senior running back Ish Witter said. "It gives us a chance to get in the film room, see where we need to improve and put in some new stuff. With this day off, we should be bringing our best energy for these next few days and get ready for the scrimmage on Saturday."
The film room continues to be a place for junior QB Drew Lock to grow. Lock said that offensive coordinator Josh Heupel has placed more responsibility on him to start this season, a challenge he is ready to take on.
"He actually gives me control every once in a while in the meeting rooms," Lock said. "He gives it to me and we can talk about it. When I don't talk about the guy's footwork behind me, he snaps at me to 'say it how I see it.' I think that's really cool for our room because we can actually talk to each other about how we feel. It's a cool environment."
Mizzou will take the field again tomorrow for two more days of practice in preparation for their second scrimmage of Fall Camp on Saturday.
