@MizzouFootball’s Fatony Earns Spot on Wuerffel Trophy Watch List

Fatony is among 108 players to get consideration for the honor
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou junior punter Corey Fatony (Franklin, Tenn.) was named to the 2017 Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, an award honoring college football's top community servant.
The Wuerffel Trophy, known as "College Football's Premier Award for Community Service," is presented annually by the All Sports Association in Fort Walton Beach Florida. Named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Danny Wuerffel, the Wuerffel Trophy is awarded to the FBS player that best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.
Fatony enters his junior season as one of the nation's premier punters. After earning freshman All-American recognition in 2015 when he averaged 42.9 yards per punt, he put together a standout sophomore campaign in 2016. A year ago, he ranked 20th in the NCAA with 43.8 yards per punt, pinning opponents inside the 20-yard line 25 times, the fifth-most by a Tiger in a single season in program history.
Fatony has been a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll each semester since coming to Mizzou and is dedicated to serving the Columbia community.
Voting for the Wuerffel Trophy is performed by a National Selection Committee that includes college football television and print media, industry notables, former head coaches and prior Wuerffel Trophy recipients. Semifinalists for the award will be announced on Nov. 2 and finalists will be announced on Nov. 22.
Mizzou opens the 2017 campaign at home vs. Missouri State on Sept. 2. Game time and a television designation have yet to be determined.
