Tigers open upcoming season with four consecutive road non-conference tournaments
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Volleyball begins its Southeastern Conference Championship defense from Aug. 25-26 at the Culvers Governors Challenge on the campus of Austin Peay State University, as head coach Wayne Kreklow officially announced the upcoming 2017 schedule Friday (July 14).
2017 Mizzou Volleyball season tickets are on sale with prices starting at only $30. All season tickets will be general admission within the Hearnes Center stands. Seven opponents on Mizzou's 2017 schedule appeared in last year's NCAA Tournament, highlighted by BYU's run to the Sweet 16.
The Tigers will hit the road four consecutive weekends to open this year's schedule, beginning with the aforementioned Culvers Governors Challenge in Clarksville, Tenn. Mizzou is slated for four matches in two days, starting with a doubleheader against Marshall and Middle Tennessee. The Tigers conclude their season-opening tournament with matchups versus Northern Iowa and host Austin Peay.
Up next, Mizzou heads to Boise, Idaho, for the first of three consecutive non-conference tournaments out west. The Tigers will meet Sacramento State, BYU and host Boise State over their two-day stretch at the Boise State Invitational from Sept. 1-2.
Coach Kreklow brings the Tigers to Salt Lake City, Utah, the following weekend from Sept. 8-9. After a Friday evening matchup against Green Bay, Mizzou closes its quick trip with Saturday contests versus San Diego and host Utah.
The Tigers conclude non-conference action in Reno, Nev., with three matches in two days at the Nevada Tournament from Sept. 15-16. Mizzou will be busy off the bat in Reno, facing Pepperdine and host Nevada on the opening day. The Tigers wrap up their weekend stretch with another showdown against Sacramento State, marking the programs' second meeting in 2017 tournament action.
Mizzou fans will be rocking the Hearnes Center on Sept. 20, as the Tigers host Kentucky in their 2017 home and SEC opener. The Tigers then quickly hit the road again for three consecutive conference matchups.
Following visits to Texas A&M, Auburn and Alabama, the Tigers return to Columbia, Mo., for home matchups against the SEC's Mississippi programs. Mizzou hosts Ole Miss on Oct. 8 for its first home Sunday match at Hearnes, followed by a contest on Oct. 13 against Mississippi State.
The Tigers close the month of October with three of four matches on the road. Ensuing a visit to Tennessee on Oct. 15, Mizzou returns to Mid-Missouri on Oct. 20 to host Georgia. The Tigers conclude their early two-match season series against Ole Miss and Georgia with road trips on Oct. 25 and Oct. 29, respectively.
Mizzou opens November with a pair of weekend matches at the Hearnes Center. Texas A&M comes to town for a Friday evening showdown on Nov. 3, while LSU visits Sunday afternoon on Nov. 5.
The Tigers conclude their 2017 SEC road schedule with their second season high three-match road trip. Coach Kreklow and Mizzou will visit South Carolina, Florida and Mississippi State over a nine-day stretch.
Mizzou black and gold faithful welcome back the Tigers with a season high three-match homestand, opening with a contest against cross-state rival Arkansas on Nov. 19. The Tigers will host Alabama the night before Thanksgiving on Nov. 22, followed by a season-ending clash against Florida on Nov. 25.
