Scherzer is just the fifth pitcher in MLB history to start for both NL and AL in All-Star Game
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Former Mizzou Baseball standout Max Scherzer has been picked to start tomorrow night's Major League Baseball All-Star Game for the National League, announced Monday. Scherzer, who is the ace of the NL East-leading Washington Nationals, is making his second start in an All-Star Game and first since 2013 when he won the American League Cy Young Award with the Detroit Tigers. Scherzer is just the fifth MLB pitcher to start an All-Star Game for both the NL and AL. He joins Vida Blue, Roger Clemens, Roy Halladay and Randy Johnson.
The 2016 National League Cy Young winner, Scherzer has been the league's most dominant pitcher in the first half of 2017. He is 10-5 with a 2.10 ERA with 173 strikeouts in only 128.1 innings, averaging 12.13 strikeouts per nine innings, the seventh-best mark in the bigs. Scherzer leads the NL in strikeouts, ERA, WHIP (0.78) and complete games (two) while ranking second in innings and third in wins.
The 2017 MLB All-Star Game will be played in Miami, Fla., on Tuesday (July 11) live on Fox beginning at 7 p.m. (CT).

Max Scherzer vs. Chris Sale to start the All-Star Game. For my money, it's the most intriguing SP matchup since Clemens vs. Johnson in 2001.

Opponents against Max Scherzer in 17 starts so far this season: 67-for-421. A .159 average. That is lowest in history for any qualified SP.
