The Tigers will face eight 2016 NCAA Tournament teams
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Head Coach Bryan Blitz and the Mizzou soccer team announced its 2017 schedule on Monday. The slate is highlighted by nine home contests and regular season matchups with eight teams that qualified for the 2016 NCAA Tournament, including defending national champion Southern Cal.
After a home exhibition game against 2016 NCAA Tournament qualifier Oklahoma State on Saturday, Aug. 12, the Tigers officially open the 2017 season at Illinois on Friday, Aug. 18. Missouri then returns to Columbia to open the home portion of their schedule on Sunday, Aug. 20 with a match against Iowa State.
The Tigers then hit the road for a pair of away contests. First, Mizzou heads out west to face Oregon State in Corvallis, Oregon, on Friday, Aug. 25 before traveling to Lincoln, Nebraska, for a Sunday, Aug. 27 matchup with Nebraska. Last season, the Cornhuskers advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and posted their most wins since 2013.
On Friday, Sept. 1, the Tigers return host defending national champion Southern Cal to Walton Stadium. The Trojans defeated West Virginia, 3-1, in the 2016 championship match to claim their second title in program history.
Road games at 2016 NCAA Tournament participants TCU (Sunday, Sept. 3) and Northwestern (Thursday, Sept. 6) precede a home match versus San Diego State on Sunday, Sept. 10 at Walton Stadium. Despite not making the 2016 field, the Aztecs own four Mountain West Conference titles over the last five seasons.
Missouri opens its 11-match SEC schedule on Friday, Sept. 15 at home against the Georgia Bulldogs before Mizzou closes out non-conference action on Sunday, Sept. 17 at home against Albany. The Great Danes are the two-time defending America East Tournament champions and earned a berth to the 2016 NCAA Tournament field.
The Tigers then continue league action on with a road match on Thursday, Sept. 21 at Mississippi State before a home contest on Sunday, Sept. 24 against Texas A&M. The Aggies advanced to the second round of the 2016 Tournament and earned a 0-0 tie against Southern Cal but the Trojans advanced on penalty kicks, 4-3.
Mizzou then has road matches at Vanderbilt (Friday, Sept. 29) and Florida (Thursday, Oct. 5) before a home game against Tennessee on Sunday, Oct. 8. The Gators went on to win the 2016 SEC Tournament after advancing 8-7 on penalties after a 3-3 tie versus Mizzou in the quarterfinals.
Following the matchup with Tennessee, Missouri travels to Kentucky (Thursday, Oct. 12) before returning to Walton Stadium to face South Carolina on Thursday, Oct. 19. The Gamecocks claimed the 2016 SEC regular season title and advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.
After a road game at Alabama on Sunday, Oct. 22, Mizzou concludes the regular season on Thursday, Oct. 26 when the squad hosts LSU at Walton Stadium.
