13 Tigers set personal records on the second day of competition
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Five Mizzou Track & Field top-10 program marks were set on Saturday as Mizzou wrapped up competition from the Crimson Tide Invite at the Sam Bailey Track & Field Complex. Among the top-10 marks were two No. 2 marks from junior Karissa Schweizer (Urbandale, Iowa) in the 1500m run and the women's 4x100m relay team of sophomore Maya Cody (St. Louis, Mo.), senior LaQuisha Jackson (Chattanooga, Tenn.), redshirt sophomore Tsai-Anne Joseph (St. Augustine, Trindad & Tobago) and senior Sandrae Farquharson (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica).
"Very good performance from our team in Alabama," said head coach Brett Halter. "Coming off a long weekend of travel and a short week of training, I was impressed with our team's grit and resilience. We took advantage of nice weather, a great facility and quality competition to get some work done as we continue to target the championship season."
Schweizer finished second in the 1500m run with a personal record time of 4:15.77, improving from her previous best mark of 4:17.47. Her time still ranks second in program history on the list of 1500m outdoor times and currently ranks eighth in the nation this season.
The second place finish was one of four on the day for Mizzou as the Tigers also received runner-up performances from senior Valerie Thames (Milwaukee, Wis.) in the 400m hurdles (59.37), senior Teylar Adelsberger (O'Fallon, Mo.) in the 3000m steeplechase (10:32.90) and redshirt sophomore Gabi Jacobs (Bloomington, Ill.) in the discus (55.23m/181-2).
In the women's 4x100m relay, Mizzou crossed the finish line with a time of 45.00, a mark that only trails last season's time of 44.54 in program history. The relay squad of Cody, Jackson, Joseph and Farquharson finished third in the event, finishing behind two Alabama teams.
Cody set a top-10 program mark of her own, finishing fourth in the 100m dash with a personal record time of 11.72. The sub-12 second time now ranks fifth in program history, as the Tiger sophomore passes six-time Mizzou All-American and current Associate Head Coach Natasha Brown's (formerly Natasha Kaiser) time of 11.75 on the top-10 list.
Two top-10 marks were set in field events as redshirt senior Mollie Gribbin (Montpelier, Vt.) set the third-longest triple jump with a mark of 12.46m (40-10.5) and freshman Emily Stauffer (Reinholds, Penn.) the 10th-farthest shot put throw at 15.17m (49-9.25). Even though Gribbin posted the third-best triple jump in Mizzou history, she was still short of her personal record mark of 13.04m (42-9.5), set in 2015 while a member of the Nebraska Track & Field team.
Three other Tigers set personal records in field events, including two from redshirt sophomore Will Fife (Jefferson City, Mo.) in the shot put (17.31m/56-3.25) and discus (50.23m/164-9). In the women's shot put, Jacobs set a personal best mark of 14.90m (48-10.75), while freshman Allie Webb (Platte City, Mo.) recorded a personal record in the javelin with a mark of 36.95m (121-2).
In addition to Schweizer's PR in the 1500m run and Cody's PR in the 100m dash, five other Tigers set personal marks in track events, including three in the men's 1500m run as redshirt junior Marc Dubrick (DeKalb, Ill.) finished at 3:51.78, redshirt junior Sheldon Keence (St. Charles, Mo.) at 3:55.11 and redshirt sophomore Zach Cook (Columbia, Mo.) at 3:56.71. In the 400m dash, senior Sydney Wells (Fort Smith, Ark.) set a personal best mark at 56.41, while redshirt junior Cain Winebrenner (Kansas City, Mo.) set his PR in the 800m run for the second straight meet, finishing at 1:49.95.
Mizzou returns to Columbia next weekend for the only home meet of its 2017 outdoor schedule as the Tigers host the Tom Botts Invitational, April 14-15, at Audrey J. Walton Stadium.
