Freshman lefty leads the SEC in ERA, WHIP and hits allowed for first-year head coach Steve Bieser
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Baseball freshman LHP T.J. Sikkema (DeWitt, Iowa) has been named a PerfectGame Rawlings Midseason All-American First Team selection, announced Thursday. Sikkema is the only freshman on the PerfectGame Midseason First Team, earning a spot as one of two relief pitchers on the team. He is one of two SEC players on the first team.
Sikkema has arguably been the nation's top reliever this spring as the freshman lefty boasts a 5-0 record with three saves and a miniscule 0.47 ERA and at one point carried a 29.2-inning personal shutout streak. A true freshman, Sikkema has exploded onto the college baseball scene, leading the SEC and ranking in the third nationally in ERA (0.47), hits allowed per nine innings (4.26) and WHIP (0.68) while ranking second in the SEC wins (five). He also leads all freshmen nationally in ERA, hits allowed and wins while ranking second in WHIP.
This is the second major award for Sikkema this season as he was named SEC Freshman of the Week on March 20.
Sikkema and the Tigers open a three-game SEC series tonight at Georgia with first pitch slated for 6:30 p.m. (CT) om ESPNU.
