INDIANAPOLIS – The Mizzou men's swimming and diving team opened competition with honorable mention All-America honors in the 800 free relay at the 2017 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI.
In the only event of the evening, the Tiger foursome of sophomore Mikel Schreuders (Oranjestad, Aruba), seniors Carter Griffin (Parker, Colorado) and Nick Davis (Chesterfield, Missouri) and sophomore Sam Coffman (Centennial, Colorado) notched a 6:18.62, less than half a second off the school record.
"Our relay was just a hair off the school record," Mizzou Head Coach Greg Rhodenbaugh said. "We're happy to be on the board for only the second time in school history in that relay."
Missouri sits 16th in the team standings with two points heading into second day action.
Day two action at the NCAA Championships begins Thursday with swimming prelims at 10 a.m. ET, diving prelims at 12:30 p.m. ET and finals at 6 p.m. ET.
