INDIANAPOLIS – The Mizzou women's swimming and diving team finished 13th with 135 points at the 2017 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships as the four-day meet wrapped up Saturday at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI. The Tigers' finish and point total both stand as the second-best ever for the program, trailing only the 11th-place finish and 139 points from a year ago.
Over the course of the meet, Mizzou had four individuals earn individual first team All-America honors, two more claim honorable mention accolades and earned first team honors in one relay and honorable mention honors in two more relays. Additionally, the Tiger combined to set eight school records over the four days.
"We outperformed our seeds by over 100 points," Head Coach Greg Rhodenbaugh said. "I think we moved up more than any other school. We did it in the mornings to get into finals then did well in the evenings. They were warriors and competed at an incredibly high level."
Senior Nadine Laemmler (Wackersdorf, Bavaria, Germany) and juniors Sharli Brady (Burlington, Kentucky) and Hannah Stevens (Lexington, Ohio) all earned honorable mention All-America honors Saturday to close their meets.
In the final swim of her collegiate career, Laemmler led throughout to win the 200 back consolation final in a personal-best swim of 1:50.79. She became only the second Tiger to go under 1:51 in the event and moved into second all-time in the Missouri record books. Her 200 back finish joined a seventh-place finish in the 100 back on Friday.
Also in the 200 back, Stevens placed two spots behind Laemmler in the consolation to finish 11th. Her finish gave her honorable mention honors in the event for the first time in her career as she narrowly missed out her first two seasons.
