INDIANAPOLIS – The Mizzou women's swimming and diving team opened the 2017 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships with a school record Wednesday at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI.
In the only event of day one action, the Tigers finished 15th in the 800 free relay with a program record time of 7:01.02, besting the old mark of 7:03.77. The relay squad of juniors Erin Metzger-Seymour (Westminster, Colorado), Sharli Brady (Burlington, Kentucky), Kira Zubar (Chaska, Minnesota) and Rachel Hayden (Indianapolis, Indiana) clocked the record time to score points in the event for the second time in school history and first since 2009. The foursome earned honorable mention All-America honors with their performance.
Additionally, Metzger-Seymour swam a personal-best 1:45.60 on the opening leg to move into third-place all-time at Mizzou in the 200 free.
As the 800 free relay was the only event of the night, Missouri sits 15th as a team with four points.
