Miami Dade College star recently claimed her second consecutive national title
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Incoming Mizzou Volleyball transfer, Sun Wenting, was honored as a 2017 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Two-Year College First Team All-American. Wenting is only one of 15 AVCA First Team All-Americans on this year's list.
"We're very excited for Sun being recognized as a First Team All-American," Mizzou Volleyball head coach Wayne Kreklow said. "She's going to be a great addition to our program. Sun is a great six rotation player and will really help us with our ball control game. In addition, she's a great person and super motivated to excel both on the court and in the classroom."
Wenting was one of Miami Dade College's premier players the past two seasons (2016-17), who recently completed a perfect 34-0 campaign and claimed its second consecutive championship at the National Junior College Tournament. The Heilongjiang, China, native earned All-Tournament Team accolades after producing 40 kills over three matches.
The Sharks' powerful outside hitter tallied 324 kills (3.45 per set) on .343 hitting and 368.5 points over her recent 2017 sophomore season. Wenting was even more effective in conference action, recording 3.80 kills per set on .567 hitting.
As a freshman, she produced 264 kills (3.47 per set) on .353 hitting with 294.5 points. Wenting played a key piece into Miami Dade's 2016 National Junior College Tournament championship-winning team and tallied 2016 Division I NJCAA Volleyball National All-Tournament Team honors.
Wenting finished with 10-plus kills in 33 matches over two seasons at Miami Dade. She also received 2016 First Team All-Southern Conference Team recognition and 2016 FCSAA All-Tournament Team accolades after producing 21 kills in the Sharks' championship match.
