Mizzou will host three meets in the 2018 season, two indoor and one outdoor
2018 Schedule
COLUMBIA, Mo. – With the Track & Field season right around the corner, Mizzou Track & Field Head Coach Brett Halter announced the 2018 schedule on Wednesday. Between the indoor and outdoor seasons, Mizzou will host three home meets, including its 20th annual outdoor meet, the Tom Botts Invitational, April 20-21, at Audrey J. Walton Stadium.
The indoor postseason will include two trips to College Station as Texas A&M will host both the SEC Indoor and NCAA Indoor meets, Feb. 24-25, and March 9-10, respectively. After Tennessee hosts the SEC Outdoor meet in Knoxville, Tenn., Mizzou will venture out west for the outdoor postseason, as Sacramento, Calif., hosts the NCAA West Preliminary, and Oregon will host the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., for the sixth straight season.
Before Mizzou officially opens its season as a team, Mizzou distance runners senior Karissa Schweizer (Urbandale, Iowa) and junior Thomas George (Gloucester, England) will head to the Boston University Season Opener on Saturday, Dec. 2. Both Tigers will look to clock a 5,000m run time that will put them in contention for the 2018 NCAA Indoor Meet. Last season, just two weeks after capturing the 2016 NCAA Cross Country Championships, Schweizer shattered the 16 year old indoor 5,000m run school record by finishing first at the 2016 BU Season Opener with a time of 15:37.40, surpassing Susan Bliss' 1990 mark of 16:33.30.
Mizzou will officially open the indoor season as a team with the Missouri Holiday Opener on Friday, Dec. 8, at the Hearnes Center. Then, Mizzou will make its first of four trips to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Arkansas Invitational on Jan. 12. The Tigers will then make trips to Nashville, Tenn., for the Vanderbilt Invitational (Jan. 19-20), New York, N.Y. for the Dr. Sander Invitational (Jan. 26-27), back to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Tyson Invitational (Feb. 9-10) and Ames, Iowa, for the Iowa State Classic (Feb. 9-10), before returning home for the final regular season meet prior to postseason competition. Mizzou will host the Missouri Collegiate Challenge on Feb. 16, at the Hearnes Center before making trips to College Station, Texas, for the SEC Indoor and NCAA Indoor meets.
The outdoor season will kick off with a trip to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Arkansas Spring Invitational (March 23-24), before the Tigers make a split trip to Palo Alto, Calif., for the Stanford Invitational (March 30-31) or to Oxford, Miss., for the Ole Miss Classic (March 31). Mizzou will then regroup as a full team for the John McDonnell Invitational (April 13-14) in Fayetteville, Ark., before hosting the Tom Botts Invitational (April 20-21) at Walton Stadium. The Tigers will then conclude the outdoor regular season by going to the Drake Relays (April 26-28) in Des Moines, Iowa, for the second consecutive season. Last year, Mizzou captured three coveted white flags for first-place finishes at the famed Relays, its most titles at the meet since 2006.
