Junior punter is one of 10 semifinalist; three finalists will be announced next week
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Football junior P Corey Fatony (Franklin, Tenn.) is one of 10 semifinalists for the Ray Guy Award, which goes to the nation's top punter. This is the first time Fatony has earned semifinalist status during his three-year career. The Augusta Sports Council, which selects the Ray Guys Award, will narrow the list to three finalists next week.
On the year, Fatony has arguably been the nation's best and most consistent punter, certainly worthy of one of three finalist spots. He is fifth nationally in punting, averaging 46.0 yards per punt. What is even more impressive is that he is third in the nation in net punting, one of the top categories for Ray Guy voters, averaging 43.33 yards per kick.

Fatony has had only seven total punt returns on 41 kicks (just one almost every six punts). On the year, he has allowed just 24 return yards (0.56 per kick), 13 of which came on one return late in the Florida game. He is doing all of that in the nation's top punt returning league as the SEC has nine of the top 52 teams in punt return average, the most among any conference.
Against Kentucky, Fatony held the Wildcats' fourth-ranked punt return unit to zero return yards. Auburn is ranked 30th nationally and was limited to just one return yard against Mizzou, a game that Fatony punted six times. His best outing of the season came against Purdue when he punted a season-high nine times and allowed just -1 yards. In his nine games against FBS teams, he has allowed three or fewer punt return yards in eight of those games.
