COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Volleyball redshirt senior Melanie Crow (Wildwood, Mo.) was named one of 30 candidates for the 2017 Senior CLASS Collegiate Volleyball Award, announced Tuesday (Oct. 3) by the organization.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. This year's 30 collegiate volleyball candidates can be found here.
"We're very proud of Melanie and what a well-rounded person she is," Mizzou Volleyball head coach Wayne Kreklow said. She is a great representation of what our program is all about – excellence in the court, in the classroom and in the community. This a well-deserved recognition!"
Crow arrived to Columbia, Mo., prior to the 2016 season and made an instant impact with the Mizzou Volleyball program. The Tiger outside hitter posted 445 kills, 48 service aces and 532 points en route to AVCA Third-Team All-America honors. Crow became the 12th individual in Mizzou history to claim AVCA All-America accolades.
In her 2017 senior campaign, Crow has continued to climb the all-time Mizzou Volleyball ranks. Crow's 1,224 career kills ranks ninth all-time, while her 1,450.5 career points ranks 10th all-time in program history.
The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the 2017 regular season. Those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2017 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship in December.
The Senior CLASS (Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School) Award honors the attributes of senior student-athletes in four areas: community, classroom, character and competition. The award program is designed exclusively for college seniors who are utilizing their complete athletic eligibility, remaining committed to their university and pursuing the many rewards a senior season can bring.
