No. 11 @MizzouGym Scores a 196.075 in Loss to No. 12 Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. – The No. 11 Missouri gymnastics team reached the 196 mark for the third time this season as the team fell to No. 12 Georgia, 197.075-196.075, Friday night in Athens, Georgia. Sophomore Britney Ward (Ozark, Missouri) won her fifth event title of the season as she took home the beam title with a 9.900.
The Tigers fell to 5-2 overall and 1-2 in Southeastern Conference action.
Mizzou opened the meet with a 48.875 on bars, highlighted by a pair of 9.800s from juniors Shauna Miller (Knoxville, Tennessee) and Becca Schugel (Eagan, Minnesota). Sophomore Brooke Kelly (Birmingham, Alabama) and freshman Aspen Tucker (Lehigh Acres, Florida) both earned 9.775s and Ward scored a 9.700 in her first-ever time in the bars lineup.
On vault in the second rotation, the Tigers went 49.125 as a team to notch their fourth-straight team score of 49 or higher on the event. Junior Kennedi Harris (Atlanta, Georgia) posted a team-best 9.875. Miller and senior Angie Kern (Columbia, Missouri) each went 9.825 and sophomore Madeleine Huber and Ward added scores of 9.800.
Missouri tallied a season-high 49.225 on floor in the third rotation, easily besting the previous high of 49.075. All six Tigers scored a 9.800 or better, again led by Harris, who paced the Tigers with a 9.900 for her third-consecutive score of a least 9.900 or higher. Schugel tied her floor personal-best with a 9.875 and Huber set a new high with a 9.850. Additionally, Tucker and sophomore Allison Bower (Mesa, Arizona) went 9.800.
The squad closed the met with a 49.850 on beam. In the final routine of the night, Ward scored her 9.900, her second score of 9.900 or higher on the apparatus this season. Tucker went 9.775 and Kelly earned a 9.750.
The Tigers return to competition on Friday, Feb. 3 as the squad travels to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to face No. 2 LSU at 7:30 p.m. CT.
