Tigers coming off record-setting 2015-16 campaign
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Women's Golf officially kicks off its 2016-17 campaign from Sept. 23-25 at The Lady Paladin Invitational in Greenville, S.C. The Tigers will be one of 20 teams competing at this weekend's tournament.
Updates throughout the Tigers' season opener will be available on Twitter (@MUWomensGolf) and MUTigers.com. Furman Athletics and BirdieFire will also provide live results from Friday-Sunday here.
Collectively, the Tigers enter the 2016-17 season with high expectations. A season ago, Mizzou's 291.9 team stroke average was the lowest in program history. Head Coach Stephanie Priesmeyer returns seven letterwinners this season, while welcoming two newcomers to this year's roster.
Sophomore Emma Allen (Southampton, England), senior Jessica Meek (Carnoustie, Scotland) and junior Clara Young (North Berwick, Scotland) each posted Top 5 all-time individual season stroke averages last season for Mizzou. Allen was named to the 2016 All-SEC Freshman Team following her outstanding first-year campaign.
Sophomores Amanda Kim (O'Fallon, Mo.) and Marit Harryvan (Winschoten, Netherlands) also tallied impressive first-year seasons for the Tigers in 2015-16. Kim's 75.00 individual season freshman stroke average ranks second-lowest in program history, while Harryvan's 76.08 season stroke average ranked fourth-lowest.
Following its 2016-17 season opener this weekend, Mizzou returns to Columbia, Mo., for its lone home tournament this year. The 2016 Johnie Imes Invitational will be held at The Club at Old Hawthorne from Oct. 3-4.
This year's Johnie Imes will be played in support of "Rally for Rhyan" and help raise money for pediatric cancer. For more information on Rally for Rhyan and how you can donate, please visit MUTigers.com.
