The freshman will represent the U.S. in the 400m dash
COLUMBIA, Mo. - Kahmari Montgomery continued to extend his season over the weekend, qualifying for the IAAF World Junior Championships in the 400m dash during the USATF Junior Championships in Clovis, California. The freshman will represent Team USA in Bydgoszcz, Poland, during the five-day competition next month (July 19-24).
Montgomery was first out of the 400m dash prelims on Saturday (June 25), clocking through in 46.08. He returned to the track on Sunday (June 26) to take on the final, finishing a mere 0.03-seconds off of Baylor's Wil London III with a 45.64 crossing.
He also earned a new PR in the 200m dash during the preliminary round on Saturday, finishing third in 20.80. That mark moves him up into the No. 6 position on the Mizzou All-Time Top Ten list.
Montgomery now moves onto the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon, where he will join six Mizzou athletes, past and present, for a chance to don the red, white and blue in Rio. Other Tigers set to compete at Historic Hayward Field (July 1-10) include senior Markesh Woodson (100m), senior Tony Carodine and sophomore John Warren (triple jump), junior LaQuisha Jackson (200m), and 2015 grads Kearsten Peoples and Jill Rushin (shot put).
