Tigers begin non-conference schedule in Kennesaw, Ga.
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Volleyball will begin its 2016 season on the road at the Kennesaw State Invitational, as announced Thursday by head coach Wayne Kreklow. The four-team event in Kennesaw, Ga., marks the first of four consecutive non-conference tournaments to begin the year.
Mizzou will be joined by Kennesaw State, Liberty and Pittsburgh at the Kennesaw State Convocation Center from Aug. 26-27. The tournament will mark the Tigers' first all-time meeting against Kennesaw State, second all-time contest versus Liberty and third all-time matchup against Pittsburgh.
Kennesaw State went 19-9 overall last season, including a 9-5 mark in Atlantic Sun Conference action. Mizzou and Liberty met for its first all-time meeting last season at the Appalachian State Invitational. The Tigers claimed a 3-1 victory over Liberty, clinching their perfect weekend in Boone, N.C.
Mizzou and Pittsburgh last met on Sept. 30, 2013, in Columbia, Mo. The Tigers tallied a 3-1 victory over the Panthers in their second match of the season. Mizzou's early season triumph was a sign of things to come, as it reeled off a perfect 34-0 regular season and 2013 SEC Championship.
The Tigers will release their 2016 home opener schedule on Friday, June 24. Fans can find Mizzou's first round of opponents at the Hearnes Center exclusively on its social media outlets.
