Butler named second-team All-SEC; Allen honored on SEC All-Freshman Team
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mizzou Women's Golf standouts Michelle Butler (Dunedin, Fla.) and Emma Allen (Southampton, England) received All-SEC honors, it was announced Tuesday. Butler was named second-team All-SEC while Allen earned a spot on the SEC All-Freshman Team.
"What a tremendous honor for us to have two players this season that earned All-SEC awards," head coach Stephanie Priesmeyer said. "We couldn't be more proud of their efforts and achievements."
Butler has established a new program record with a 72.59 stroke average during her senior year. She has recorded two individual runner-up finishes this season. During the Johnie Imes Invitational in Columbia on Sept. 28-29, Butler broke a program record by shooting a round of 65 (-7). She ranks 33rd nationally in score vs. par and eighth in the region. During the fall season, she tied for eighth nationally with 49 birdies. For the year, she has shot under par in nine rounds. She shot a 54-hole total of 207 at the Johnie Imes, which ranks as the third-best in Mizzou history.
"Michelle has had such a great year for us and it is well-deserved with her consistent play that she was chosen on the team," Priesmeyer said.
Allen has established a new freshman scoring average record (73.30), which ranks 19th in the region. She was the runner-up at the Web.com Intercollegiate on April 4-5 to earn SEC Freshman of the Week. During her first year in the collegiate ranks, Allen has recorded 12 rounds under par, including a career-low 67 (-5) in the final round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown on Oct. 27, which tied for the third-lowest round in program history. Her 54-hole total score of 206 in Las Vegas marked the second-lowest three-round score in Mizzou history. During the fall season, she tied for 15th nationally with 47 birdies.
"Emma has been a strong player for us all year and nearly had her first collegiate win a few weeks ago," Priesmeyer said. "She is a very mature and independent golfer for a freshman and will continue to improve and gain more experience over the next three years."
Mizzou will participate in the Shoal Creek (Ala.) NCAA Regional Thursday – Saturday at the Shoal Greek Golf Club. The Tigers have received the No. 8 seed heading into the tournament.
"We are really looking forward to our trip to Birmingham and we plan to give it our all with a strong three days of golf," Priesmeyer said. "This group can absolutely get it done. We will continue to stay in the moment and enjoy these next few days of golf together."
