
Santos Falls in NCAA Round of 64

Santos, a second-team All-SEC selection, finishes the season 21-17 in singles play
TULSA, Okla. – Mizzou Tennis junior Bea Machado Santos (Lisbon, Portugal) fell in the first round of the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Singles Tournament, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3, to Klara Fabikova (California) on Wednesday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla. Santos was the first Mizzou player to compete in the NCAA Tournament since 2003 and the third player overall.
In the first set, Fabikova, the No. 16 ranked player in the nation in the Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings, led 3-1 before Santos fought back to tie the score, 3-3. Fabikova would take the next three games to secure the first set, 6-3.
Santos scored four of five points to take the first game of the second set and grab a lead, 1-0. Santos took the next two games as well to jump out to a commanding, 3-0, lead in the set. Fabikova would take the next game to shorten Santos' lead, but the Tiger junior would win three of the next four games to take the second set, 6-2.
In the third set, Santos had a 2-1 lead, but Fabikova won the next four games to take a 5-2 lead in the final set. After falling behind, 40-15, in the next game, the Lisbon, Portugal native rattled off three straight points to stay alive in the match, but Fabikova would take the next game to take the set, 6-3.
Santos finishes the season with a singles record of 21-17. In her second season in the black and gold, Santos defeated six ranked opponents, captured five SEC wins and was named to the second-team All-SEC. At the No. 1 position, Santos posted a 14-9 record and was 15-9 in duals overall.
